Brakes

Your brakes are the most important safety system on the car. We don't take shortcuts on them — ever.

Overview

Brake work covers everything from a quick pad swap through to full caliper rebuilds, brake-fluid flushes, ABS module diagnostics and brake line repairs. We carry quality brake components on the shelf for most makes, so a lot of brake jobs are done same day.

Every brake job here includes a proper inspection of the rotors (discs), brake fluid condition, hand-brake operation, and the wear pattern — because pads that wear unevenly are usually telling you something about a sticky slider or a tired caliper. Fixing the cause means you don't end up doing brakes again in 12 months.

What we cover

  • Brake pad replacement — front, rear, or both axles
  • Brake disc (rotor) machining or replacement
  • Caliper service, including sliders, seals and full rebuild
  • Brake fluid flush — recommended every 2 years to protect ABS
  • Brake hose and brake line replacement
  • ABS warning light diagnostics and wheel speed sensor work
  • Hand-brake (parking brake) adjustment or repair

Get your brakes checked if…

  • Squealing, grinding or scraping noise when you brake
  • Brake pedal feels soft, low or spongy
  • Steering wheel pulls or shakes when braking
  • ABS or brake warning light on the dash
  • Hand-brake doesn't hold on a steep driveway
  • You're due for a WOF and want to be sure it'll pass

Our approach

Wheels off, full visual inspection, pad-thickness measurement and rotor check. We call you with what's needed and a firm price before doing the work. Most brake jobs are completed within a couple of hours.

Why us, here in Kapiti

We use the brake fluid type your manufacturer specifies — DOT 3, 4, 5.1 or LV — and we flush properly when we say we will. Cheap brake jobs that skip this catch up with the ABS pump eventually, and that's a much bigger bill.
